Yellow finch

On Friday, I was out cycling and was surprised to see a yellow finch. I don’t recall ever seeing one in the city, and this one was right near an off-ramp of a major highway. Go figure. Seeing the finch reminded me of some shots from last summer at the cottage.

Welcome Back!

Yup – I got the call and my camera is repaired! I walked outside this morning and was able to take photos of some of the flowers that have been awaiting their time in the spotlight.

It is a windy morning, so macro shots are a bit tougher…..

not thrilled with the results, but thrilled with having my camera back!

Actaea pachypoda – Doll’s eyes

The actaea pachypoda is a herbaceous perennial plant with white flowers and fruits (shown above) that resemble doll’s eyes – hence the common name.

I took this shot at the Koffler Scientific Resere, north of Toronto, while helping my son collect ants two summers ago.

Right now, Kyle is in Peru, collecting ants and doing other research. I’d love to be there taking photos and helping him out anyway I can.

Museum of Civilization

This museum has history dating back to 1856. The first hall was to display artifacts for the Geological Survey of Canada, although it originally was situated in Montreal, it is now in Gatineau, Quebec (across the river from Ottawa).

I highly recommend this museum for anyone, but especially for families.

This is from the Grand Hall – and for the first time I noticed how the ceiling looks like the bottom of a kayak. The photo below is from the Pacific Coast Aboriginal Exhibits.

Ottawa road trip…

I recently took a four-day trip to one of my favourite places: Ottawa. I don’t know what it is about this city, but I really find it wonderful. I love Canadian history, so that probably helps. One adventure took me to see the changing of the guard, both at a war memorial near Parliament Hill and then at the Hill itself. I was there with about 15000 others, so I never got really close, but there is no a bad view, really.

My little point and shoot and I are working on composition and I’m pleased with how things are progressing!
